- Assistant/Associate Professor of Advertising
Description
The West Virginia University Reed School of Media and Communications seek a dynamic, collegial faculty member for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track appointment. Primary teaching assignments may include ADPR research, ADPR campaigns (capstone projects), and/or teaching in/leading the School’s student-run ADPR agency. Teaching assignments may include other courses related to the successful candidate’s areas of expertise and needs of the School. Ideal candidates will have recent professional experience in advertising, successful collegiate teaching experience, and a passion for experiential learning. The School has a reputation for collaborative hands-on coursework and special projects that benefit nonprofit organizations, communities and small businesses in West Virginia. The successful candidate also will have the opportunity to engage with the School’s active Ad Club.
Active participation in professional organizations in the field is expected, and the successful candidate will participate in and contribute to the School, serve on committees, and engage in the university and professional communities.
Date of Appointment: August 16, 2026 (Classes begin August 18, 2026)
Requirements
Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in communications, advertising, strategic communications, integrated marketing communications or closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of, or strong potential for, establishing and maintaining a scholarly research program. The candidate must have a minimum of two years of teaching experience in advertising at the college level.
Applicants at the Assistant Professor level will have a developing record of scholarly research in advertising and demonstrated teaching effectiveness. Applicants at the Associate Professor level must have a sustained record of high-quality scholarship in advertising (peer reviewed, juried), effective teaching, and meaningful service that are consistent with tenure requirements at an R1 institution.
If the successful candidate has national or international advertising professional experience, they may fill the Harrison-Omnicom Chair in Advertising, which provides an additional stipend.
