Position Summary
The Communications and Volunteer Coordinator supports ReMerge’s mission by coordinating volunteer engagement and leading digital and print communications efforts. Reporting to the Director of Development & Communications, this role is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and scheduling volunteers; supporting mentorship and youth engagement programs; and assisting with event planning and promotion. The coordinator also develops content for publicity efforts, social media, newsletters, the website, and marketing materials to help increase awareness and community support. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, creativity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to bring ideas to life and amplify the impact of ReMerge’s work.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Position
- Plan, organize, and execute events, including graduations, community partner events and more. Manage logistics, secure quotes, coordinate vendors, and proactively seek in-kind donations for events.
- Work collaboratively with program staff to plan and execute Recovery Capital events that support connection and growth for ReMerge families.
- Assist with fundraising and donor cultivation events as needed, including preparation, set-up, and day-of event support to ensure a smooth and engaging experience for attendees.
- Develop and implement digital communication plans for events, ensuring alignment with ReMerge’s mission, goals, and brand voice.
- Lead digital communications efforts, including managing monthly newsletters and other mass communications as needed, to ensure consistent messaging aligned with ReMerge’s mission and brand voice.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy to increase visibility, engagement, and positive public perception of ReMerge. Works collaboratively with staff to develop content regarding participants, donors, and more.
- Using Canva or similar programs, design marketing materials and presentations for internal and external projects.
- Represent ReMerge at speaking engagements focused on awareness of the organization, volunteer recruitment, and mentorship.
- Support the mentorship program by recruiting, training, and retaining volunteer mentors, and work collaboratively with the program team to ensure alignment with participant goals.
- Lead ReMerge’s internship, young professionals’ engagement, and teen board programs, including program development, onboarding, training, evaluation, and continuous improvement to ensure effectiveness and meaningful engagement.
- Partner with program and administrative staff to identify volunteer needs, refine role descriptions, and create meaningful engagement opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
- Oversee volunteer engagement efforts, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, training, and retention, ensuring a positive volunteer experience.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, identifying opportunities for collaboration that support participant growth and program sustainability. Maintain an up-to-date database of community partners and stakeholders.
- Manage volunteer data and documentation, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with policies. Evaluate program and event effectiveness through feedback and data analysis to drive continuous improvement.
- Routinely review and maintain the ReMerge and Catalyst Cookies websites, ensuring they are up to date, functional, and in line with brand standards.
- Design and oversee the ordering of participant and staff apparel, business cards, and name tags ensuring alignment with ReMerge’s brand and values.
- Curate and manage participant and event photos, ensuring proper identification, documentation, and compliance with consent and privacy policies.
- Coordinate and lead the preparation of large-scale mailings, including the annual appeal, tax receipts, event invitations, and other donor communications, ensuring timely and accurate distribution.
- Craft and distribute clear, compelling press releases to promote ReMerge events, milestones, and organizational updates to media contacts and community partners.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date mailing lists to support effective communication with donors, stakeholders, and the broader community.
- Perform other duties as needed to support successful resource development efforts and organization-wide initiatives, adapting to evolving priorities and contributing to team success.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Exceptional project management and event planning skills, with the ability to organize and execute successful volunteer engagement, program events, and large-scale organizational functions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to craft clear and compelling messages, deliver engaging presentations, and effectively engage with team members, volunteers, and community partners.
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, ensuring that volunteer, partnership, and event documentation is thorough, confidential, and aligned with organizational policies.
- Proficiency in digital design tools (such as Canva) and experience creating marketing materials, presentations, and electronic communications that align with ReMerge’s brand and messaging standards.
- Proactive problem-solving abilities, with a resourceful and creative mindset to overcome challenges, develop actionable plans, and contribute innovative ideas for program improvement and engagement strategies.
- Trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach, treating all staff members, participants, and volunteers with respect, dignity, and empathy in alignment with organizational values.
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to work cross-functionally across departments and build strong relationships with external stakeholders to advance ReMerge’s mission.
- Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple responsibilities, including volunteer engagement, event coordination, and digital communications, to ensure smooth program operations.
Education & Experience
- An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Nonprofit Management or a related field is preferred.
- At least two years of experience in communications, volunteer management, event planning, or related nonprofit work. Experience with social media strategy, email marketing, and volunteer engagement is strongly preferred. Familiarity with tools like Canva, Constant Contact, and donor management or volunteer management databases is a plus.
Electronic Equipment Requirements
- Cell phone and data package is required for this position. Employee must have a working cell phone and provide number to supervisor and relevant staff. Data package must be available as needed for work purposes.
- Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office; must be able to operate standard office equipment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- While performing this work, the staff will spend time sitting, standing, speaking, and listening. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must have the dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment. The employee must have the visual acuity to read and draft reports, memos, letters, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the employee to perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently; must be able to hear, speak, and communicate clearly. The employee will work in a smoke-free environment.
