- Deputy Communications Director
Description
Fair Fight Action is seeking a Deputy Communications Director to help lead communications in our efforts to fight for free and fair elections. This position plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s press strategy and core message, writing high-impact communications materials, and collaborating across departments to advance storytelling that supports our mission. The Deputy Communications Director will pitch stories, respond to breaking news, and help develop messaging that drives media coverage and public engagement. This is a fast-paced, writing- and press-heavy role designed for a strategic, proactive thinker and strong communicator committed to protecting voting rights and independent elections.
Deputy Communications Director Responsibilities:
- Press Strategy and Media Relations
- Help lead proactive and reactive media engagement, including pitching stories, building relationships with reporters, serving as a media contact for the organization, and developing media strategy.
- Draft and edit press releases, statements, op-eds, talking points, media advisories, and other press materials.
- Plan and execute earned media events like press conferences and press briefings.
- Monitor media coverage and support rapid response efforts across departments.
- Narrative and Messaging Development
- Support on shaping organizational messaging across earned, owned, and digital media.
- Develop strategic briefs and communications materials that ground our messaging in research and real-world impact.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment on campaign and media materials.
- Writing and Content Creation
- Write and edit content including statements, remarks, scripts, and messaging guidance and more.
- Work with the digital and creative team to ensure written content is adapted effectively for multiple platforms and formats.
- Team Coordination and Fellow Supervision
- Supervise communications fellows, supporting their growth and ensuring their contributions are aligned with department goals.
- Help foster a high-performing, inclusive team culture rooted in collaboration, shared leadership, and mission-aligned storytelling.
Location Preferences:
Metro Atlanta-are candidates preferred, but remote eligible with in-state presence expected as needed.
This position is in the Campaign Workers Guild bargaining unit. The wages, hours and working conditions of this role are subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the FFA Union.

Requirements
Deputy Communications Director Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs.
- Experience supervising interns or fellows and providing constructive feedback.
- Familiarity with general workings of mainstream news outlets.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with reporters and pitching or placing stories.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a portfolio of high-impact content (e.g., press materials, op-eds, campaign messaging).
- Strategic thinker with strong political judgment and an understanding of media landscapes.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and responding to breaking news or crisis moments.
- Deep commitment to Fair Fight Action’s mission of protecting voting rights and independent elections.
- Familiarity with Georgia politics or the Southern political and cultural context is strongly preferred but not required.
- Comfortable speaking to young audiences (18-24), communities of color, and news outlets.
